Microsoft Certification Path

When you pass this exam, you achieve Microsoft Certified Professional status. You also earn elective credit toward Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer certification and elective credit toward Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer + Internet certification.

Skills Being Measured

This certification exam measures your ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot information systems that incorporate Microsoft SNA Server version 4.0.

Planning

Develop an implementation plan for Microsoft SNA Server software in a new installation and an existing installation. Considerations include:

  • Environment
  • Client computer types
  • Link services and connection types
  • Domain and server roles
  • SNA Server deployment model
  • Network protocols for computers that run SNA Server software
  • Fault tolerance and load balancing

Develop a security strategy for computers that run SNA Server software. Considerations include:

  • Configuration permissions
  • Access permissions for client computers
  • Host security integration
  • Internet firewall support

Develop a host data integration strategy.

Develop a host-client application integration strategy.

Installation and Configuration

Install SNA Server software. Installations include:

  • Initial installation
  • Upgrade
  • Maintenance
  • Automated setup

Install host security integration.

Configure SNA Server for a hierarchical environment. Tasks include:

  • Adding and configuring a link service
  • Configuring connections
  • Configuring 3270 access
  • Configuring fault tolerance and load balancing
  • Configuring downstream PUs
  • Configuring the Distributed Link Service
  • Configuring TN3270 access

Configure SNA Server for a peer-oriented APPC environment, such as AS/400. Tasks include:

  • Adding and configuring a link service

  • Adding users and groups
  • Assigning default APPC LUs
  • Configuring fault tolerance and load balancing
  • Configuring shared folders
  • Configuring TN5250 access

Configuring and Managing Resource Access

Use the SNACFG utility to perform administrative tasks. Tasks include:

  • Printing the configuration file (Com.cfg)
  • Viewing the configuration file (Com.cfg)
  • Modifying the configuration file (Com.cfg)

Manage LUs. Elements include:

  • 3270 LUs
  • LU pools
  • Local and remote APPC LUs
  • Print LUs
  • LUAs

Configure SNA Server security. Tasks include:

  • Assigning administrator permissions
  • Assigning access permissions for client computers
  • Auditing resources and events
  • Configuring data encryption
  • Enabling password caching, multiple logons, and dual logons

Implement host security integration.

Implement, configure, and audit Internet firewall support.

Configure an SNA Server computer to be managed by a mainframe computer. Tasks include:

  • Configuring the NVAlert service
  • Configuring the NVRunCmd service

Manage TN3270 access and TN5250 access.

Configure and manage the Host Print Service for 3270 environments and 5250 environments.
