Implementing and Supporting Web Sites Using Microsoft Site Server 3.0

Exam 70-056 has been available since October 14, 1999.

Microsoft Certification Path

When you pass this exam, you achieve MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional) status. You also earn elective credit toward your MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) certification and elective credit toward the MCSE+I (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer + Internet) certification.

Skills Being Measured

This certification exam measures your ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot information systems that incorporate Microsoft Site Server version 3.0. Before taking the exam, you should be proficient in the job skills listed below.

Planning

Choose the appropriate component to solve specified problems. Components include Content Analyzer, Usage Import, Report Writer, Search, Content Management, P&M, and Knowledge Manager.

Choose the appropriate Microsoft Windows NT or membership-based authentication strategy for a given situation.

Choose a security strategy for users and servers on an intranet or the Internet or for access through a firewall.

Choose a reporting strategy for various situations.

  • For Content Deployment, choose which events to report, where to keep the event information, and how to distribute reports.
  • For Search, choose which items to report during the build process and the querying process and how to generate and distribute reports.
  • For Content Analyzer, choose which content to analyze, which reports to use, and how to distribute reports.
  • For Usage Import and Report Writer, choose what to store in your Web server's log file, where to store the analysis data, which reports to use, and how to distribute reports.

Perform capacity planning. Considerations include the number of servers and the hardware requirements for each server.

Develop a backup-and-restore strategy.

Choose the database configuration.

Installation and Configuration

Install and configure Site Server components. Components include Search, Content Management, P&M, and Knowledge Manager.

Select the appropriate configuration management tool for a given situation, specifically WebAdmin or Microsoft Management Console.

Configure the Direct Mail components, including Content Analyzer, Usage Import, and Report Writer.

Create a new Content Management site.

Create a new Membership Server instance by using the pmadmin command line.

Configuring and Managing Resource Access

Configure the Site Server administration groups to give access to each component.

Manage Web site content by using Content Analyzer.

  • Detect broken links.
  • Monitor content on a staging server.
  • Manage links to external resources.
  • Analyze usage patterns.

Publish documents to a Web site.

  • Use Microsoft FrontPage to configure user and group accounts to meet the security and access requirements for publishing with Content Management.
  • Submit and tag content to a Content Management site.

Deploy content.

  • Configure Search to work across Web pages, databases, Microsoft Exchange Server messages, newsgroups, and file systems.
  • Configure Content Deployment projects and routes.
  • Deploy Web applications.
  • Deploy content as a transaction.
  • Post content from a Web client computer to a Content Deployment server and have it deployed automatically.
  • Determine deployment status by reading the Content Deployment event logs.

Find content by using Search.

  • Configure user and group accounts to meet the security and access requirements for Search.
  • Create queries to find specific items.
  • Optimize the search process for faster indexing and searching.

Secure content by using Membership.

  • Configure user and group accounts to meet the security and access requirements for P&M.
  • Enable Membership security for Web servers.

Configure P&M.

  • Add new user attributes.
  • Enter attributes from a Web page.

Manage information by using Knowledge Manager.

  • Configure user and group accounts to meet the security and access requirements for administration of Knowledge Manager.
  • Use briefs and sections to share Knowledge Manager information.
  • Configure Search, Briefing, and Channel Centers.

Analyze Web site content and usage.

  • Analyze Web site usage by using Usage Import and Report Writer.
  • Use Custom Import to enhance Web site log files that have additional data.
  • Analyze data from other Site Server components, such as P&M and Search.
  • Visualize Web site usage by animating the usage data in Content Analyzer.
  • Make reports available to other users through the Web.

Integration and Interoperability

Implement personalized e-mail in Knowledge Manager by using Direct Mailer.

Use Custom Import to import personalization data and other external data.

Integrate Microsoft BackOffice server applications to work with Web applications.

Upgrade a Site Server installation to add Site Server components. Components include

Content Analyzer, Usage Import, Report Writer, Search, Content Management, P&M, and Knowledge Manager.

Monitoring and Optimization

Optimize the database for Analysis and Membership.

Optimize system usage by Search.

Monitor the building of a Search catalog.

Monitor the replication of a Content Deployment project.

Troubleshooting

Diagnose and resolve Site Server configuration problems.

Diagnose and resolve security problems.

Diagnose and resolve resource access problems.

Diagnose and resolve Search query problems.

Find and repair broken links, hyperlink text, headings, and titles by using Content Analyzer.

Diagnose and resolve installation process failures by using the setup log file.

Diagnose and resolve connectivity problems.
